Oak Park, IL Oak Park, IL Part-time Part-time $14 an hour $14 an hour 15 hours ago 15 hours ago 15 hours ago Job Purpose Ice Arena Attendants are responsible for maintaining an inviting, positive, and safe environment at the Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex.
This position works in many different areas of operation and will function as cashier,, skate guard, birthday party attendant, skate shop attendant, and assist with programs, rentals, and public skates.
This position must effectively communicate and enforce Park District rules, regulations, and policies to the public.
Essential Functions Open cashier booth and assist in preparation of the facility for daily activities.
Complete all end of the shift reporting and depositing of money.
Follow the District's cash handling procedures.
Distribute and handle cash transactions.
Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of skate shop, concessions, and assist in overall facility cleanliness throughout shift.
Maintain order and enforce rules of the Public Skate Behavior Management Policy on the ice during Public Skate Sessions.
Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, patrons and participants by maintaining a visible presence and watching for injuries during Public Skate Sessions.
Understand, follow and enforce all Park District rules and make announcements during public skate intermission.
Assist birthday parties by executing party functions providing customer service and assisting with party activities.
Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image when working with patrons by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents immediately.
Provide a welcome atmosphere by smiling and greeting customers, offering thank you and good byes, etc.
Report maintenance needs to supervisor; follow-up on status with supervisor and/or maintenance supervisor.
Identify and observe equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and adjustments.
Complete attendance reports, safety logs, accident and incident reports, discipline logs and report discipline issues to supervisor.
Inventory and monitor first aid kit supplies; requisition supplies as needed Close and secure cashier booth at the conclusion of daily activity.
Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours.
Follow and enforce all PDOP policies and procedures.
Must be available weekday afternoons, weekends and holidays.
Additional Functions Occasionally assist with events and programs.
Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified.
Post and remove any flyers, brochures, signs, or other information as required by Park District.
Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or other Park District administrative personnel.
Knowledge, Skill, and Work Experience Must be at least 16 years of age.
Basic math and computer skills required Some experience with data entry and generally accepted office procedures.
Cash handling or other work experience preferred.
Level of comfort working or learning to work with computers and software essential to the position.
Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the park, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured park visitors, etc.
).
Must have the ability to be firm with rink visitors (both youth and adults) when necessary, enforce park district rules, and make sound decisions in order to secure the safety and well-being of all park visitors, facilities, and equipment.
Must be able to complete required Park District training.
Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current.
The District provides this training.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Considerations Frequent sitting, walking, standing, reaching, bending.
Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
Will be exposed to occasional inclement weather including heat, humidity, cold, rain, and wind.
Prolonged hours seated at a desk or standing to assist customers.
May include prolonged hours of computer use.
Cognitive Considerations Ability to work independently without supervision.
Ability to use calculator and cash register proficiently.
Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise manner.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read and understand printed material.
Ability to operate other assigned equipment.
Ability to effectively interact and communicate well with others.
Ability to interpret and explain division and District policies and procedures.
Ability to follow safety guidelines and exercise judgment in all aspects of responsibility.
Ability to resolve conflict safely, calmly and effectively.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
